It is a treatment method that we apply to the tooth as a result of inflammation of the tissue in the centre of the tooth that provides vitality to the tooth due to excessive decay of a tooth. This inflammation often reaches the root of the tooth and destroys the bone tissue around the root. The solution to this situation, which causes pain that can even wake our patients up at night, is root canal treatment. Our aim is to relieve the pain of our patient, to ensure that the tooth maintains its functional and aesthetic continuity, and to ensure that the bone tissue around the tooth protects itself.
How to do it?
After the decayed tissue is completely removed, the nerve and vascular structure, which we call the pulpal chamber, are reached to the centre of the tooth. Teeth vary in terms of the number and shape of canals according to their position in the mouth. We enter through the canal mouths and remove the infected tissue in the canal with nickel titanium files and wash it with special solutions. With this treatment, we clean the tooth from root to tip. In the next stage, we fill the canal with special materials to maintain the durability of the tooth. After filling the canal, we shape the part visible in the mouth with filling materials and finish the treatment. Since each stage requires meticulousness, the treatment can be divided into sessions. Since opening the mouth is very tiring after a while, multi-session treatments are more comfortable for the patient. Single session root canal treatments are also a method we apply. The number of sessions is determined by the condition of the tooth, the degree of infection and the health status of the patient.
The idea that antibiotics should be used before root canal treatment in every patient is wrong. We carefully advise our patients not to use antibiotics without consulting their physician. Antibiotics mask the pain but do not eliminate the tooth-borne infection. Treatment of the related tooth is necessary for the infection to heal. The doctor may prescribe antibiotics when necessary, taking into account certain parameters and the patient's health status.
Expressing your pain clearly to the physician will help the physician to determine the treatment procedure and will ensure that the correct diagnosis and the correct treatment method are determined.
Since the root canal treatment procedure is performed under local anaesthesia, you will not feel any pain.
